Does anyone have a picture of the proper way to put strut rod bushings on?
    Thanks

Most likely because the old metal bushing is stuck in the old rubber bushing.

sry, i meant to say that there is a metal cap over the rubber bushing. Do I need to use the metal cap?

The metal cap/washers go between the rubber and the nuts.

I do know where the washers go but I have an extra metal insert that I'm not sure where it goes. I got it from Rock Auto and made by Raybestas.
