I recently bought a very nicely finished 72 Maverick Grabber . First thing I did was call my State Farm office to insure the car. I requested a stated value policy with the value at $12,500. They didn`t have a problem with the valuation but they do require photos and an legal appraisal to cover for this amount. Has anyone else been thru this exercise ? Is there anyone out there who can do a licensed appraisal for my Maverick ? Atlanta , Ga area?

I have state farm currently until my record clears enough for better ins. also my wife is an agent, not for state farm though. they will not cover our car as a true collectible, as it is newer than 70. the pics and appraisal will help but they will keep devaluing your vehicle and give you a hard time if your car does end up wrecked. they did this to my car and my wifes 68 cougar four times in three years. my wife doesnt sell hagerty but they seem to have the best coverage and policy for our cars. also i dont know if you want the car covered for repair if your at fault or not, but that is the most expensive part of any coverage so if you dont need it that will cut your premium down severly with whatever insurance you go with.definately go higher on the rest of the insurance though if you can afford it. its a good CYA that way. Good Luck.

If it's not going to be a daily driver and you can keep it in a locked garage, Hagerty, Grundy, others will be cheaper.

Ray Parrish (Rayzorsharp) is a certified car appraiser.

A lot of insurance companies are starting to require certified appraisals when you request a certain amount on coverage. I'm not sure where they break the line but Farm Bureau covered one of mine for $8000 with no questions asked. Anything over, they wanted an appraisal.
I have my blue Grabber insured by Grundy International. They insured it for $10K with no more than photos. It cost me about $200 for an entire year. Unfortunately I had only paid one premium and Katrina caused them to pay me $9000. The car actually totaled but I was able to keep it for 10% of the $10K claim. So far I have put about $4k in it (but lots of labor) and I almost have it back in shape. Anyway, Grundy is a pretty good company. However, I requested $10K coverage on the brown 74 LDO I just purchased and they shot me down. They could tell by the pics that I had a lot of time and money in my Grabber and I guess the 74 LDO just looked a little too plain for them. They required an appraisal for the 74.
Well, guess what...I am a certified auto appraiser for a company called Auto Appraisal Group (my side job). Unfortunately, the way our appraisals are done, I merely grade the condition of the car, inside & out, front to back, running condition and so on. It's almost like I'm judging a car in a car show. I then send in that info to my headquarters along with about 40 photos and they send back the certified appraisal. So anyway, I appraised my own car. It did come back lower than I had hoped ($8500) but at least it still more than covered my investment.
Anyway, to make a long story short, my appraisal company can appraise your car if it is necessary as we have an agent pretty close to you. If you do decide to get one let me know and I'll see about getting you hooked up. Good luck with your car...would like to see pics. (y)

I have Hagerty and have mine insured for $28K. I had an appraisal done but Hagerty said they didn't need it. Cost is less than $200 a year.

I have Hagerty`s for another vehicle that I don`t drive very often but I plan on driving the Maverick - not daily but a few times a week - 5000 - 10000 miles per year. I`ll check with them and see if they have this type coverage and I`ll post results here .

On another note - Mavoholic - noticed in your auto list there that you have a 57 Ranchwagon - I`ve got a 59 Ranchwagon w/42k miles - post a photo of yours or email me one and I`ll do the same..
