I,ve got this 347, 12.5:1 comp set up for drag and Im using the Ford Racing mini starter (M-11000-B50) and the firewall mounted solenoid (per starter instructions). Problem is when I try to start the thing it turns over great until I give it some gas then the starter begins to struggle turning the engine over and periodically stops then turns over then stops again and again until it finally starts. I have checked ALL connections over and over. Ground wire is good and voltage seems good at all points from battery(12.5 volts) except on the start wire coming off the ignition switch (9.5 volts). I have checked voltage at both ends of this wire (at the ign. switch and solenoid) and they are the same. All parts (ign. switch, solenoid, starter, battery and cables) are new. Does anyone know what the votage reading on the start wire from the switch should be? Or is anyone using this starter with this high of compression? Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like too much ignition lead in. Try backing the dist off to about 8-10 BTDC. If thats not it you might need a different starter or a bigger battery. You could also try wiring up a second battery like a diesel but with that much amperage it'd probably fry the starter.

What's batt voltage while cranking? If it drops real low you probably need more battery amps. less than about 10.5 volts is getting low.
