Went out to start up the Comet today and the starter kept running on after the engine fired up. I turned the key to the off position and the engine stopped but the starter would not disengage. I had to pull the negative battery lead to stop it.

Not being a mechanic I'm thinking of three possibilities. 1) Bad starter, 2) Starter Solenoid, 3) Ignition switch.

Am I in the right ball park about this. Anyone else have this issue and solved it.

    Appreciate the help and advice.

    Thanks!

Probably 99% of the time it's the solenoid that has stuck contacts... Whack it with a screwdriver handle and see if that fixes it..

Thank Krazy Komet!!. The solenoid was the problem. Put a new one on this morning and I'm Willie Nelson. (On the road again....)

By they way can you recommend where to get a new manufactured high quality solenoid. These re-mans suck. Also I have a re-man starter from NAPA. Any advice on where to also get a new manufactured high quality starter.

    Thanks!

Go with a mini torque starter! But I normally go to car shows and find NOS starter soloniod for sale.
