Yesterdays progress/set back.So after fixing the mangled core support and straightening the mangled hood inner structure and hooking up the new hood latch/grill support(Thanks mean maverick!!) It was time to install the mangled grill which I rebuilt with portions of a wrecked 75 grill...youll note the lack of a grill medallion. Its all lined up and opens and closes like new.Shortly after these pics were taken...the car refused to start...no spark...Testing showes the MSD box to be faulty.Yes I removed it from the car before doing any welding.Did get it to run today for approximately 4 minutes...Then it shut itself off...Like someone turned the key off.Now its all dressed up and just wont go... Story of my life.Heres some pics...

Looks great. Chop those front coils though slacker.:)
Was considering MSD. What do you think vs. the factory box? Is it worth the swap?

Darren...I like em for engines that like alot of fuel, have high compression and a fat cam.Burn efficiency means alot and the MSD is good for that. This car had the MSD 6-AL box/Distributor on it when I got it so I went with it, since it seems to have a pretty rorty cam in it and definitely has some compression.Unfortunately the swap monkey was an electrical moron.Connections were lousey at best and the 12 volt switched wire that turns the box on was wired to the original ignition coil wire, which is a resistor wire. That said...the box was being switched on with only 9 volts.I feel that this contributed greatly to its untimely demise.lots of people are afraid of them and you hear horror stories. If you wire them properly with good solid connections according to the supplied instructions. You wont have a problem with it.Sorry to chew your ear off on this one.I am just bummed out...Was gonna take it for a good ride today if I got it sorted out.
The plan is to put the 6 cyl springs back in it and see how it sits with em.Cant do anything else with a big paperweight till I decide what I am going to do about the ignition.

Mine has the 6 cyl springs and I think the stance is pretty good. It seems to drive well. Not too soft in the front.
As for the ignition i really have no idea whats inside this engine. Eventually I'll get around to investigating it to get an idea. It idles fairly well so I dont think its like my first one I had. Just has a nice lope to it. It does have 5/8 plugs with aftermarket roller rockers.
Anyone know the easiest way to get a production year?
