What should the gap be with a hi voltage distributor? i have an Accel distributor and im not sure what gap to set the plugs to. i had standard Autolite plugs gaped at .060 in it, and went to Autolite Racing Plugs. They came gaped at .035 and they don't like to move to a wider gap. it seamed to run better with the standers plugs at .060 but i just guessed at the gap.

I ran the factory tfi gap @ .054 with my hei dist. Ran pretty good at that gap.

I agree. When I swapped the points distributor in my 351W for something more powerful and modern, I changed the gap from the factory recommendations to somewhere around .055.

Wide gaps are not recommended for high compression engines. For a stock 289/302/351 with 8:1 compression, wider gaps can be beneficial (provided that the ignition system is up to the task). .035" is just fine for 9.5:1 and higher.
