Congrats!!! Looks like a great deal! I don't know that I've ever seen another black LDO interior.

I'd been in contact with the kid the whole time but I honestly never thought I'd get it this cheap!! And best part guys: it's less than 10 minutes from where I'm moving back to Cali to!!!

I had a friend of mine send her mechanically inclined pseudo-boyfriend over there today to look at it. He said it does need some work: the alignment is off as it drifts at 35-45 mph, the radiator may need replacing, the body is in great shape though (he was impressed by it actually), and a few other minor things. I'm a bit worried about the overheating issue; I plan on flushing everything once I get there (yet another reason for me to rush back to Cali!!!), a mini tuneup and checking for leaks/getting a new thermostat before I start worrying.

But dudes! I got a car!!!!

Actually the dash was originally a tan color. He had it up on Ebay about a month before with different pics and it hadn't been black; he'd put in the description that it'd recently been converted to that. I actually like what he's done with it, but hope that he did a good job or that I can fix it if he didn't. I don't think it's LDO but I'd need more than just the VIN to tell that I think.

Don't matter to me, I'd probably have done the same thing. I'm just in that big-smile-on-my-face moment, I have a Comet.

Awesome deal Sarah  That one is much better than the last one you were trying to get. I still hate that you're leaving me but I understand...you gotta go get your car. Stop by sometime when you're passing through and we''ll talk a little Maverick...or Comet.:D Keep us posted on your progress.

The body is the only thing I care about...I have found fixing the mechanical stuff always cheaper then having new 1/4's and floors welded in. Body looks pretty good on your Comet..nice car and a great price! What are your long term plans for the car? Color? Engine mods? Wheels?

I'm about 99% sure that car had the LDO option. The dash, the seats, the trim in the trunk and the holes down the side for side trim.

One of these days I'll get my hands on a Comet... If I don't end up turning my '69.5 into one first. :rofl2: 69.5 Comet... I like that. :evilsmile

I'd been curious if those seats were stock, they look like the same kind I have in my Acura! I prefer those to the bench seats, but I'm just stoked about it all. The kid wants me to get it off his dad's porch asap which may be difficult as I'm in Mississippi but hopefully I can get it all worked out. I sent the deposit already via Paypal and once I get the $1500 for the Civic I'll give him the rest.

    Me verrah happy. :drive:

Well, color I'm torn about. I was seriously considering an olive green with beige/tan strip either across the top or back end but I also wouldn't mind just restoring it to whatever color it was originally. That's the last step so I have time to figure it out though. :) Wheels are going to be mag-style rims, either stock size or with 15s front, 17s back; again, gotta price them and decide where she's going to go. The engine I'm leaving alone for now, I just want her in good running condition before I even think of boring, supercharging, or racing. She's in good condition right now although I want to look underneath to see if she's rusting out or leaking anything; no pictures were taken up under there and I didn't ask the guy who looked at her for me whether he'd seen up her skirt as it were. :D
    :drive:

For now, it'll be engine work: new everything (distributer cap, plugs, carb rebuild, fluids, etc) just cause I can. And wheels, although I honestly don't have near the cash for rims yet but she'll be getting tires, alignment done and possibly new shocks/struts (another thing the guy who helped me out told me she likely needs). I can do most of what I want to do under the hood myself but the wheelwork and wheelwell work I'll let the tire place do (if the price is right).

Does anyone know where I can get the manual for the car? Can I order it online, or do they have an online version I can just peruse until I start looking inside her?

I would search for a Chilton Manual.... as the owners manuals are not very informative.

Which is best and where would I find it? I went to Amazon.com and they had them but there were a number for the year and nothing for the Comet...
