The c4 in my Mav was recently rebuilt, so it seems pretty solid, but the column shifter assembly/bushings/etc are shot. I am wondering how easy it would be just to convert the whole thing to a floor shifter. Seems like a piece of cake, but I was wanting input/advice from someone who has done it. I'm definitely thinking aftermarket, but close to a normal floor shifter: no pistol grips, no lock-outs, etc.

    recommendations?

    thanks in advance

You can go with a early Mustang shifter. Most parts for them are reproduced and easy to get. Also it would look factory.

B&M makes good shifters, Hurst also. Most can be purchased with a cable shift, so just mount the shifter to the floor, run the cable, minor adjustments, and VOILA!

Then you can get really fancy by making shifting consoles, etc.

If you get a chance, cut away all the linkage off the column shifter, down by the engine and steering box. These are now useless after converting to floor shift, and will get in the way of headers, when (not if) you get them. Unbolt the mounts at the engine and near the steering box, and remove all those little linkage pipes that go to the shifter on the C4.
