Hello guys Thanks for the wonderful response, knowing now the guy wants 1100 to 1200 for what might be a Sprint, I think I'm going to hold off and play hard to get, and maybe try and get for about 500 if all possible since it hasn't ran in a couple of years and wheel cylinders are locked up in back, besides in a small town cars and trucks don't go for much I feel with income tax coming up i might get if for that since he doesn't have a job and has heart problems,do you guys feel this is a smart move or what? just wanted to know what you guys thought, besides wife wants me to work of the 76 f150 that was given to me for 1 dollar it runs body needs a little work just traded a couple of buick regals for a good 360 motor for the ailing 6 banger but you know the truck only has 61,000 original miles on it, guy bought a fairly new dodge truck and didn't want this old truck but to me in my eye it's a diamond in the rut just like the maverick you just can't find good cars and trucks like that, so the average guy can work on it..Besides with 6 kids money is tight and i do alot of horse trading and not alot of cash output..lol thanks again for listening and hoping to bring another maverick back to the road,if i do get it the 250 won't be in there to long already looking for a 302 he he :bananaman . thanks Bo
In this case if you're still interested in the car, which it sounds like you are, you could remind him, in a polite way, of course, of exactly what it's going to take to even make it roadworthy. Also the fact that if it's been sitting there that long, it would free up some space in his yard that he could use for something else. Then lowball him an offer, he just might bite. If nothing else, it gives you somewhere to negotiate from. Just be prepared to walk away though if he refuses to haggle. Just my 0.02
Its only a smart move if it works out and you end up with the car at your price. Personelly, I quit trying to make those smart moves because for me, they always turned into dumb moves. Now a days, if I see it and I want it, I buy it. Screw saving a few bucks.
