I hope to put my front suspension back together soon (money and time willing), and was debating whether or not to cut a coil off the front springs to give a slight rake. Have any of you seen this done to a 4-door, or done it yourselves? Got pics? I'm wondering how it would look, and how it would affect handling. Thanks.

Been there, done that. If you like the "raked" look, you can either take a coil and a half off with a cut off wheel (perferred method) or even install the springs and then heat them till desired ride hight is obtained. The latter is not a good idea, changes the spring metal properties and they ride like a lumber wagon in most cases. Cutting one coil will not really change much, thats why I alway used one and a half and sometimes two, but then ride quality is stiffened again. "Definately get the front end aligned afterwards" very critical item for handling and safety. Getting down closer to the ground will help cornering greatly. I think the rake job looks very good on two door cars but on the 4drs, just doesn't quite give the same look, but that is just my opinion from the 60's and 70's. If you like it, do it, says I, and enjoy.

Yes, Dave is right, one coil won't give you the rake. I cut one off mine and now it is level.

I am not a fan of cutting coils. You can get good progressive rate springs from any Mustang house that will drop you an inch and have a much higher rate, so your handling will improve greatly. They really aren't very expensive, and they are the right way to do the job.

I cut two coils off mine. It is the maximum without bottoming out. One coil will level it with the rear. I don't have a picture but 2 coils look real good. I would cut 1.5 coils off and see what it looks like. If you want to go more than cut more, it might be more work but you can't add to it if you take too much off.

Yeah Nick, that's kind of what I'm concerned about. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I've got a bit of time to make my decision, in the meantime any other opinions are more than welcome.
