What is all needed to do this properly, i have a '74 block and billet pulleys for a serpentine 79-93 set-up (brand new had them listed forever, never sold so why not use them?) which water pump will i need? and do i need to change the timing cover as well? converted to manual steering also, so all i'm running is the crank/water pump/alt. i did a search and found a couple things, but not really the specifics i was looking for. thanks
You'll need the reverse rotation water pump and maybe a spacer between the harmonic balancer and pulley... Also I do know the timing cover used with the serpentine setup is approx 1/4" deeper than the 302... This thread may help you, I posted some picts of std & reverse W/P... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=94427
Thew timing cover will depend on what water pump you choose to go with. The 79-85 Stang's used a reverse pump with the std rotation timing cover. Which apparently didn't cool well, as Ford revised the cover and pump for the 1986 model year. This setup was used til 1993, also used in the 86-97 Pickup/van engines. The coolant ports were reversed to match the pump and ease the coolant's path into the block. The 89-93 T-Bird/Cougar 5.0 and the 94-95 Stangs used a shorter pump and matching timing cover This cover was later used for the 96-2001 Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0 with a slihtly different pump.
