I have researched the best 3 point front seatbelts for this car, and no posts get very specific with part numbers. Can anyone provide a source for a good generic 3 point retractable front belt that fits good for a 1972 Maverick with high back seats? This is a good sign I am getting near the end of this project!!!!!!. Thanks
You're going to have a tough time with that. I did not like what I have seen retrofitted into these cars. I grafted '74 belts into the floor pan and welded in the matching overhead mount. The stock overhead mount on a '72 is pretty far back especially for high back seats. Also, the corresponding tunnel side mounts on a '72 are further back than a '74. Unfortunately, this is too late for you. Micah
Sorry I don;t have an answer for the question here but it must finally be nice to see such a bright light speeding towards you as you drive out of the tunnel. And don't forget that I enjoy racing neighbors too!
I got a pair of belts from Auto-loc. They are just OK, but you may want to keep shopping for better. My reason for posting is to show the seat belt drop I used. These are out of a mid-90s Ford church van. They place the belt at a better angle, using the stock upper mount, and don't look out-of-place.
those are interesting, Jeff. Do you ever hear them tapping against the windows during aggressive cornering?
That would only be a possibility if my car ever moves under it's own power again ...LOL. In reality, I doubt that would ever be a problem. They really only move front-to-back, not much side-to-side, and they will have a belt laced through each. With the belt in there, they also will be drawn forward at a bit of a forward angle.
Nice, that looks about as good as it can get! I have been talking with member Dyent and will probably order what he has suggested from seatbeltplanet. It should end up looking something like what Captain Comet posted above, but a complete kit and ready to bolt in. What is that piece of plastic down by the floor attachments? I have not seen that one on my 72 Maverick, am I missing another part again?
I bought mine from: http://stores.streetrodshop.com/seat-belts/ Seemed to have the best prices, well made, and great color selection. They shipped right away.
SCS, If you go to my Showcase post you can see how I cut up the floor and grafted the seatbelt mounting plate into the sill. The seatbelt retractors are inside the sill. The plastic piece covers the assembly. It was a bit of work, but I have a proper three point assembly. Micah
Thanks much guys. Was looking at the conversion myself and learned a lot from the community in one single page.
I welded a plate with a nut into the "B" pillar, about halfway down the quarter window opening, and attached mine there. But in my case, I mounted the retracting part, in the bottom of the "B" pillar, behind the inner quarter trim panel. Then cut a slot in the trim panel for the belt to go thru and used a maverick belt piece for the new belt to go thru. It works really good, and I like the location. I may have to get a few pics of it to post here.
