I'm restoring a 71 Comet with factory Air. I need all of the seals that go between the heater box, center duct area and defroster nozzle. I've seen them on an exploded view type diagram. Are these seals still available? If so where? Or, do you have to make your own out of foam weatherstrip?
Also, is there any good step by step or how to articles on putting all of this back together? It appears that the center duct area is just sandwhiched in between the dask and the heater box, no positive attachments. Also what is supposed to keep the defroster nozzle sealed on the center duct area? There doesn't seem to be any attachments there either.
What is the correct sequence in installing this mess?

You will need to get your own foam tape to re-do all the foam sealant areas.

A Ford service manual would have step by step directions. A Chilton's might as well, but I don't know for sure.

I found some great almost an exact replacement foam for this vent plus the flapper diverter vent inside the dash. The foam comes wrapped around our laser ink cartridges at work. You have to cut out a pattern on the foam and then glue it on with some 3M spray glue. I did mine and they came out perfect.

I have been told there is a kit through one of the mustang parts supplyers BUT I don't know for sure and it would be for a 69 or 70 . When I did mine the seals for the doors I used a foam backed head liner material and used spray glue ( 3m #77 glue ) glue material to door then trim to size . The large donut on the fresh air inlet and the foam around the heater hose inlets were reused .

It is not hard job to due . Remove all the clips around the top ( Take pic as you go along ) The shaft for the door slids through the case into the door then out through the case on the other side ( you may need to soak it with WD 40 or liquid wrench to remove it ) clean and remove all rust and paint .

I would replace the heater core and pressure test a/c evapator core ( or if you can vaccum test a/c evap. ) and if need replace it ..
