last week i heard some noise coming from my valvetrain and the mav wasnt running too good so i removed the air cleaner and started to hear some metal noises coming from valve cover i thought oh no i got some loose rocker arms.so i pulled the cover and low and behold there was the baffle plate from my new valve covers laying on my rocker arms both aluminum rivots came out and the search was on where did they go? into the oil pan!!!!! thats where i found them.spent the last two days working on it and got everything back together today.found some fouled plugs so i replaced all of them and its running real good now as for the valve covers i left them off for now and put my old chrome ones back on until i talk to the company the made my covers. they were only 3 months old.thank god they didnt get into my valves or springs. ok im done ranting and venting. anyone else have this happen?

Count your blessings, I have seen some bad damage due to this very problem. If I ever have baffles I put the screws in with some locktite.

lesson learned mike but they were not screws they were spiraled rivits you tap in and they were nice and tight when i installed them. hopefully they make it right with me.

Good news is there way to big to fit through the pump screen, but they could have got in the valvetrain. I suspect the company wont do much about it.

"cough. summi, cough" lol j/k better not be FR ! any how from an engineering and fastener standpoint I have used these screw rivets on motor boilerplates in cast alum housings for the oil drilling industry. These rig motors produce 1200 hp 4000 lb ft tourque and vibrate like crazy. I have seen these motors back from field in arctic type environments for 5 years and never seen even a loose rivet. short of having too large a diameter hole during manufacture these should never loosen. They are also close to a grade 8 hardness.

Any ways good detective work tracking down the sound you probably saved your valvetrain and possibly engine.

hmm I just started refurbishing my "84gt powered by ford V/C's for my engine build better check them :yup:

none of the above but i had a set of factory ford v/c that are in my avatar and they had screws to hold the baffle in. you could be right about the overbore
