Okay. First let me say that I did a forum search first, but I didn't find some specific questions answered about wheels that I have. ahem... I have the chance to get a *free* set of Crown Vic Steel Wheels off an ex-interceptor model (The guy I know is making a crown vic/marauder clone+++and wants styled wheels) These are the 16X7 plain black wheels my questions are (in no particular order) 1. Will they more than likely fit? (they are 4.5 bolt pattern, do not know spacing) 2. do you think the dog dish/trim ring look will work on a wheel this new? 3. has anyone done this? and here's a pic I knabbed off the net for reference: A.P. Your are going do some measuring. Sit the rim face down & put a yard stick or a straight edge across the rim. Take a ruler & measure from the center of the rim to the straight edge. If you have some where around 4 inches, it should fit. I think 3.5 to 4 inches should be fine. This is how you find the backspacing of a rim. I hope this helps.
I was considering a similar swap. Ford changed the rims on the Vicky to metric very recently. Around 04-05... if those aren't 05 rims, you should be fine. Those rims also have a 'poverty cap' option available that would look good. They were used on police cars and cabs. The Ranger centers also get used for these applications as mentioned previous. Personally, I wanted to use one of the 16x7 aluminum rims available for the Vicky and some Mercs in the 90s. They would make a nice stock-ish looking rim for our cars IMO. If you use these rims and the modern poverty caps, try on a set of trim rings... never seen that. Bet it would look good. Dave
I've got a 98 Crown Vic P-71 Police Interceptor with the same wheels. I painted my wheels semi-gloss black. Right now, I'm running center caps with trim rings, and yes, the rings look good with these wheels and caps The Police set-up looks pretty good, and would likely look pretty cool on a Mav too. There's two types of police center caps common to these wheels. The ones I have on mine right now are the tall caps like you see on some Rangers too. The other is a baby moon style cap with faux lugs outlined on the cap around the Ford logo. They look somewhat like the "Police" caps on old style Chevy rallys. These are "sportier" than the longer, bulkier Ranger caps,....I'm shopping for a set of those for my Crown Vic now. Important note:....you need the special lug nuts to use any center caps,....they're "collared", meaning they have like a built-in washer that the cap snaps onto. Here's some on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-FORD-CROWN-VICTORIA-P71-POLICE-LUG-NUTS_W0QQitemZ8021981592QQcategoryZ33749QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This wheel/cap/trim ring set-up looks pretty cool on my Interceptor. I'm going to try them on my Mav for fit and look when I get the other style caps. I don't know what the back-spacing is on these wheels, but they look pretty standard for stock steel wheels. I'll try to post some pics if my wife ever gets back with the Interceptor this afternoon
Pics would be cool. Have you ever tried these rims on the Mav? If you ever do swap these on, post some pics. Thanks Dave
These are the rims I was speaking of... Edit: I can only seem to find these in 15"... I thought they were made in 16" for a while. I would like to see these 17"s on a Mav just for giggles:
Good thread.. I like the cop car wheels. Been thinking the same thing about putting some on my 71 when done. Dan
Here's a couple of my Interceptor with the rings and caps. Sorry 'bout the low quality. I added a pic of the smaller style "moon" cap too.
Ratio 411,the pic you have there is the 15" rims, the 16's look more like the old Saleen or GTA Trans Am wheels,ie-they have a more pronouced "dish".I saw some of the 16's on a black 4dr mav,it was on e-bay awhile back,I think it was Chuck Stalnakers car(one of them?)might be some pics in the gallery.Looked pretty good too.
The 'cop' style rims were also the spare rims in the run of the mill stuff. My junkyard man told me if I could scare up a set of 4 or 5 spare rims that match, I could have them. I did a quick run around the yard that day and didn't see anything... However, I didn't look very good and most of the candidate FoMoCo cars had the trunks inaccessable for one reason or another. When I get a chance, I think I will take him up on the offer. Running around that day, I also noticed that the 'shoulder' lug nuts were everywhere. I even noticed an Explorer with them. Dave
You should grab those up.....they're going for $40-$50+ a set on ebay. I got mine for $30 from the guy I bought my caps from. I found another cap style that works on these wheels, I think they came on Explorers, I just bought this set on ebay
