have eny of you heard of an (s rod) 4 speed and will it fit in a 74 comet? i have found every thing but a trany to convert my car to a standard. if this trany whont work thin what will? thanks
Single Rod OverDrive - yes, I've heard of it. What do I win? They are basically a three-speed with a fourth gear that's an overdrive. Not very good gear ratios for any performance use and they're weak but if you just want to cruise it'll work. At least till you find something better.
i do rase a bit mostly hischool kids i have the only runing and driveable comet/maverik in town. im building my 302 up and hoping i can get about 300-400hp out of it. need to find a cam thow. so would it holde up to that kind of use?
Not for long. And with the large ratio difference between gears, you'll have a pretty big rpm drop at each shift.
well what els could i use? i cant find a toploder or a T5 what would work that i might be able to find? the reason i whont the manuel is that the car useto be one and i dont like driving an auto. i do have the bell housing for a 4speed flywheel and cluch asembly.
what all did they come in? ive bin looking and found that they are harde to come by around hear. i was told about a munci but i dont know if he wonts to sell it.
Ebay, swap meets, & your local Mustang club, are your best sources to find a transmission. I doubt you will find a toploader in a junk yard. For a bolt in, the toploader is about your only choice. One out of a early mustang is what you need to find. Borg Warner also made a T10 4 speed which Ford used until they came out with the top loader. The transmissions are still plentiful but you have to know where to look. You can also look in the back of any car magazine and there are places that specialize in 4 speeds. But they are usually pretty expensive. I have an extra top loader but shipping would probably be as much as the cost of the trans. One more thing, a munci is a chevy trans and we all know chevy is junk.
Muncie is spelled...............Muncie. Muncie, Indiana is about 10 miles from my house. Drive by the Muncie Transmission plant all the time.
