    hey all

Specs: 1985 302 with rollin thunder cam, pro form hei with spring kit, holley 670 street avenger, vac advance at full vacuum, 18 initial and 38 total

so when the car is hot and i moved the timing back to 18 initial (was at 22 i don't know why i did that) and i also moved the idle screws back to 1.5 turns out (was at like 2.5 or 3, again not sure why i did that) and when i let it idle it'll idle at 750 (what i set it to) but every once in a while it'll jump up to 950 and stay there for a few seconds, like 10 or so, and it'll drop again. so i think its the advance or distributor as the cause because when i unplug the vac advance from the pot and plug the hose it'll idle consistently... could it be my springs? i have a light spring in the dist. right now...

    thanks all in advance

oh and but the way the reason i messed with it in the first place is because my power seems to drop off at too low an rpm (like 4000) so i was trying to figure out what was wrong

now i noticed the car seems to have a lean backfire (through carb) on occasion (caused me to stall a couple times)....
