i dont want to keep updating my "new guy" thread so i figured i'd make a thread chronicaling the building of my freakin sweet drag car. for those who didnt see my intro im rob, live in northern ca. picked up a really clean single owner 72 comet with very little rust and a rebuilt 302

the tranny hardly worked but the motor ran pretty good. i found brand new points/rotor/plugs etc in the trunk and installed them. serviced the tranny at my work (which either fixes it or destroys it, but it worked) and proceeded to do sweet brunouts in the parking lot

so the direction im going with this build it basically to make a fast as hell drag car. i'll post new pics and what not as often as i can. sometimes they might be a little far between because i do have a 51 chevy styleline im building and an all original 65 pontiac bonneville.

    progress as of today
gutted the living hell out of the interior

and cut the second muffler off the exhaust (it was so quiet it annoyed me)

i am planning on picking up a set of hooker super comp headers and runnign them (with cutouts before the mufflers) through a pair of borla xr-1. the borlas will be in the stock location (but obviously one on each side of the driveline) with turndowns. im not a huge fan of chrome exhaust tips/exhaust u can see.

so that brings us to now and look for lots of updates

and just a preview of whats to come. it is a 72 car which means 8.5:1 compression...now to most people thats a drawback...to me thats screams BLOW ME! so it may not be the near future but look forward to a 6-71 pokin out the hood of this beast.

well if you let me knwo real soon i can probably save it... 99% of it is in the back of my buddies truck so the sooner i knwo what to save the better cuz its only a matter fo time til he's drunk and builds a fire...as a warning the interior was pretty freakin shot which is why i really didnt worry about saving it. all i kept was the back seat to reupholster. im gonna run the back brace bars of the cage just hgih enough to clear the backseat...sometimes that thing comes in useful:162:

still doin research on exactly what components i want to run btu the basic plan is

blown 302, transbrake or manual valve body c4 with ratchet floor shift, driveline, spooled 9" spinning the fattest tires i can fit under stock tubs (may tub it later but i want to get real good on smaller tires first) not sure which shocks yet (any suggestions?) those calvert drag springs are lookin tasty with some caltracks. black paint (eventually...it's gonna run primer and the ugly tan color for awhile, i'd rather be fast and ugly than slow n purdy) interior wise...gutted, full cage (probably just a rolbar at first though) momo steering wheel with a quick release (already have the wheel from a previous car) my plastic buckets for now, better seats later, gauges where the radio used to be, tach on the dash. anyways thats what im shootin for

yea its in a bag at work...i'll grab it for ya on monday, it should still be there. it works, i listened to music on it for 2 days.

yep. picking up aluminum for door panels in a few weeks. probably make panels to cover that hole between the doors and fenderwells as well as to make a firewall between the trunk and back seat area. planning on relocating the battery to the trunk as well in the near future.
