My car was torn down completely in 1992 and built back up with my father. This was our first and only restoration project. We got lots of advice. We cleaned the bottom while not removing the undercoating. Spots that need good cleaning we took to metal, cleaned and applied undercoating. Then we sprayed flat black on the bottom. This was a daily driver so flat black was fine for the under side and engine well.

Well its time to move past that and get more serious.

I have new quarters for spot repairs in 2 locations - one taken out by a tire blow out and another repaired in 1992 with rust killer and body filler. Its just now starting to bubble a little.

My goal is to keep the car in the garage and drive it once a week when the roads are clean and temperature good. I would like to meet up for round ups and car shows. (Black interior, 70 Mustang Alcapolco Blue Poly with Brazilian strips in black or silver with black outline pin stripes.)

I am thinking of painting black - engine bay, suspension, oil pan and rear end in high gloss and wheel wells and inside of fenders satin black.

I want to drive the car to shows and hate the idea of cars on trailors. (Might need AC to drive it to shows - lol)

As a weekend garage guy - am I taking this too far?

If not, how do I do this and make it last so my efforts are not wasted time or need to be redone in 10 years? (Anyone in Indiana/Ohio I should talk with/seek help from?)

You need to make the trip to my house and I can show you mine, give you some pointers etc. I had a mmb member here over the weekend from Arizona...just for that purpose.

I was thinking of waiting until I had the car in the state. Considering I am making plans for work to be done on it while still in Florida - I should swing by first. I'll send you a PM. (y)
