I need to get my header out and I'm trying to remove the z bar. I got the adjustable pushrod out and that's it. what's next?

zbar should have a center bolt, take it out - then you should be able to remove the frame side.

V8 z-bar is 2 piece unit that is held together by a 5/8" head bolt, once removed frame side half should come off frame side bracket. The engine side is held onto the ball end stud by that spring clip, so it has to be removed and then that z-bar half will come off the engine ball stud. The 2 nylon bushing halves should stay on the ball stud, as they are cupped around the ball itself.

im a little confused dyent. the bolt is off and i do not see this "spring clip" holding the bar to the engine. it looks like it'll just fall off as soon as i get the other side off. the frame side bar is unclipped from the pedal rod (bushing is worn out) and it's still attached. what is holding it to the frame?

there is a frame bracket, that has a stud/round bushing, bracket is attached to frame rail with 2 - 9/16" head bolts. If both upper and lower rods have been disconnected from the z-bar, along with bolt that holds the 2 halves together, should beable to remove z-bar from frame side. There was a write up a couple of months ago regarding another member's z-bar and I will try and locate as he had pictures.
Perhaps in your situation, you may have to loosen/remove frame side bracket in order to remove the z-bar, it's a real pain in the butt to get access to those 2 bolts, especially if you have headers.....good luck!

look in the 2nd link. in the middle of the diagram, to the right. it looks like somehow there's just 1 bolt holding it on. (not the halves bolt) where is it??

There are 2 bolts on top of the frame rail.

are you trying to access those bolts from the topside or from underneath? especially with headers, easier to gain access with car up on good set of car ramps, crawl under and bracket/bolts are just behind the steering box. (between the box and firewall along top of frame rail). should beable to access with short box end 9/16" wrench, like I mentioned in earlier post, pain in the butt. also use safety eyewear to prevent all the crap from falling into your eyes........

If you're crawling under the car...it's easier to reach the bolts with your feet sticking out under the front bumper. With your feet sticking out from under the driver's side door you cant reach the bolts as good. This is if you're right handed. If left handed...you are on your own.

    Can a clutch Z-bar be used on a C4 302 application?....if not I have one for sale.

If the bar mounts in the same place as the 200-C4 setup, I pulled mine with a socket and long extension.

With the 306 already in the car, the engine head pushed the bar back....forgot to take off...quite tricky, but possible.

Automatic transmissions don't use a z-bar. If you have a manual transmission z-bar...I'm interest in it.

    Thomas,
I do have a clutch Z-bar, could use the money to get my accelerator cable and shift cable.
Those are the 2 main items stopping me from rolling under power.

WOW, I got everything out. the first bolt at the front is next to impossible. from underneath you got the header in the way, loose or not. from up top even with a swivel joint, it's hard to get the extensions on the bolt. i'm done.
now, I need to rebuild the assembly with everything.
    I see this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bronco-Cougar-Fairlane-Galaxie-Mustang-Torino-Maverick-Clutch-Rod-Bushing-New-/371427473371?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=2EBRWTZOW4DSlweL%2Ff03acLkyjU%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
how many would I need and where else can I get this?
dyent posted this http://mmb.maverick.to/attachments/melvins-jpg.96152/ but I don't see where those little clips go...
so is there a 1 stop kit for this?
also I think my clutch fork pushrod is worn at the ball shaft and I can't find that. might just try welding it back up.

I have always taken those bolts out from the top side using a wobbly on the extension with some tape wrapped around it to keep it from moving so easy, practice and patience are needed though.
