The mounting base on my driver's side mirror is busted. It is currently hanging by the 3 cables. The door is gutted right now so there is easy access. I started to remove the actual mirror part by removing the 2 screws holding it into the housing. The cables are attached to a small rectangular plate but from the looks and feel, they are they to stay without damaging the parts. So that leaves going to the other end and removing the assembly from the door. Is this the correct way to replace the base? If so, what are the steps to remove the components from the door panel? I will have to replace the knob as it is missing or broke off. The bezel is intact but does not want to unscrew from the door panel.Who had done this before?

You will need to remove it from the interior side/adjuster handle end. The Bezel is threaded onto the adjuster. There are some internal slots cut into the bezel to assist.
