has anyone ever removed an entire power steering system from their maverick? i hate mine! it leaks and its so bad/from more than one source, that i think id just like to remove it. i dont think mavericks need power steering. to do it, does it require a donor car or the purchase of any new parts?
when we put in a 302 we deleted the power steering to eliminate the bracket fun. at this point all we did was remove the pump and the hoses from the center link. it is suggested to either fill the slave cyl with grease and put plugs in the holes (i f type plugs), or swap the ps center link for a manual center link ( i have been told they are the same except for the mounting holes). since ps steering boxes are quicker than manual ones, the steering becomes much harder when the ps is removed. noticeably harder, and we have skinny front tires. would be really tough to turn with wide tires on the front.
I have seen them cheaper but here is another approach requiring alot less wrench work: http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCatalog/Steering/manual_steering_adaptor.htm
I have like a 75 engine in my 72. 2 weeks ago I removed power steering pump to replace the fuel pump. The power steering pump is still laying on the driveway and the car runs better. I gained a horse power or 2. And lightened up the front end. The pump was shot anyways. I had to get a different water pump pulley to run it off the altanater the pump was run off the power steering pump. I had fun trying to find pully to line up with the alt. good luck. John P.S. my lines are still on the car till it goes up on a lift someware
