    I can't help you with the gears, but as far as disc set ups, I used ones from a granada and they work great. Everything should bolt up, I think that when all was said and done I spent about $100 for parts, and labor was extra but sounds like you can do it yourself. Hope this helps you.

    If you were still using a 4 lug rear that's why you had problems.
    The 8 inch 5 lug rear that came in a Mavericks or Comets are strong enough to hold even a stout 302, if you blew one of those then it was going anyway. Use the search engine here on the main forum and you will find all kinds of info on all the different rear ends that you can use. If you want a simple, cheap and the easiest replacement then see if you can find a 8 inch for a Mav or Comet so it will bolt right in with only minor changes from a 4 lug rear. This would also be a good time to look at gearing, the 3.50 ratio is a good street gear and Auburn sells a locker that works well for the street. If disc brakes are what you are after then I would look for the aftermarket ones, ford had some problems with the ones that came on the 9 inch rears that with some help will bold into your Maverick and besides those things bring a pretty penny now a days. (sold one 4 months ago for $475 and that's cheap)
    As always this is just my 2 cents and I hope it helps

    rearend

    Just go find another Mustang or Maverick/Comet and get the rearend. Beef it up. Just make sure you measure the spring mounts and width of the rearend before you get it and take the measurements off your's. There is lots of different ones out there.

    do you still have the 77 parts car you pulled your 302 from?? did you use the front disk brakes from it under your car?? and did you use the 8" that was under it?? as far as rear disc brakes here is a picture of mine.......I do not have a mechanical parking brake.....but the whole set up only costs $150.......and that is either with all new or rebuilt parts.......if it is of intrest to you or any others I can list what parts I used......

    Robert;
    That's a pretty interesting looking set-up you have there. The price is sure right. I don't see any brake lines running to it in the pic that you posted. Have you tested it on the road yet? I'm sure that a number of us would be interested in any info you could provide on how you did this. I know that I would. Thanks, and good luck. John B.

    no not tested yet but sometime this summer.......but here is the rundown.....the rotors are front top hat rotors for a 88-92 jeep cherokee 11" the calipers are gm metric......(yeah yeah I know:)) and the brackets I bought at a local circle track shop.......the calipers were $15 each(rebuilt) the rotors were $20 each(new) the brackets were $10 each........and all the hoses bolts and such were $40......I plan on running a 70 4 wheel drum brake master cylinder( I was reading a article on Charlie Ping's site) and that was the master cylinder he used if I do have any problems I will use a adjustable valve on the rear.......on my car I also have the metric calipers on the front as well( MII front end) so I will have 11" rotors on all 4 corners......

    Robert; Some more questions, if you don't mind. That rear-end...it's a standard Mav 8"? And those brackets...if you went in to a circle track shop and asked for them, what would you be asking for? Thanks. A very interesting solution you have here. John B.

    No actually it's a 9" narrowed up to factory 8" width.......but it is the same diameter tube as the 8" and they basicaly have the same axels so.......when you go to the shop tell them that you need the weld on caliper brackets for the gm metric calipers.......or for around $30.00 each they also offered a clamp on bracket.......If you canot find them I can pick a set up for you....just let me know:D
