So my one buddy purchased 2 rear coilover shocks for his 1969 1/2 2 door 200i6 maverick. He purchased them through Green Auto Sales. When I have Done research, there aren't any for my 75 4 door maverick. Is there any reason? Let's try to keep the "2 door is better than 4 door" comments away, because this is what I'm sticking with haha.

    mavericks use leaf springs.
to use coil overs on the rear would require re-engineering the rear suspension with some type of link type suspension system.

Maybe coilovers isnt the right word haha. Load assist maybe? The rear shocks have sprints on the top part of them

The upper shock mounts on Mavericks are not designed to carry the load of the car.

Also, '71 and later have staggered shock mounts. The '69.5-'70 do not.

yep. countless threads on here of the top shock mounts being ripped out from air shocks and load assist shocks. if you want to lift the rear of the car, the best way is with new springs. you also could get your springs re-arched and even have a leaf added, or you could do this http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/junk-yard-rear-suspension-tech.49782/

I don't know anything about these other than they were on the car when we bought it, maybe it will help answer a question or two, or maybe ya'll can tell me the why and what the previous owner did here.

Those are exactly what the OP was referring to. After having owned a car where the shock mounts and cross member were destroyed by air shocks I would steer clear of these if it were me.

those are helper springs. they are usually used to either help the load capsity of the car. usually if its towing or hauling heavy loads. nothing a maverick should do. the other use is to raise the rear end of the car. either to give it a stink bug look or to correct for sagging springs. again its not the proper way to do either of these. the mounting points are not strong enough for this.

That is exactly what I was referring to, and after hearing some horror stories, I will be steering clear of those haha. So what I'm going to do is get new leaf springs. SuSuggestions? Espo has been one that keeps popping up. Also, are 2 door and 4 door springo the same dimensions?

There's another thread here where members have gotten their springs from a Mustang place for a lower price than ESPO.

I recently got some from ESPO (haven't put 'em in yet) because I wanted 3-leaf. The 4-leaf I had rode too stiff. ESPO offers both 4-leaf and 3-leaf. Most other places I see offer only 4-leaf.

    2-door & 4-door are the same dimensions.

I would let your leaf springs do all of the work as they were designed to do - this is coming from someone that drove their top shock mounts right through the truck floor on my Duster in the seventies :slap:

Alright I'll do some research on finding those threads. As a final question, does anyone know of a part number for polyurethane leaf spring bushings? I looked on summit, but I couldn't find more than tie rod ends and control arm bushings. I really don't wanna use plain rubber ones again

I use urethane ('got 'em from ESPO) bushings in the front spring-eyes, and rubber on the rear shackles.
