Anyone happen to know the diameter of a rear drum center hole for the 79-91 Ford full size models with 11x 2 1/4 brakes, 5x4.5 bolt circle? Having some axles made for a 9inch and they need this info to make the axle centering hub the correct diameter. Thanks for any help.

there is different sizes. If you have the drums, just measure them. If you know the car, call a parts store and they should be able to give you that info.

Just thought I would save myself a trip to the salvage yard, it's hotter than hell here and us old folks are a bit intolerant of the heat and humidity. Most of these drums all have the same size center hole with the exception of one or two odd ball cars. Wagner and Bendix master catalog lists only the brake diameter and bolt patterns. Just took a chance someone had a Galaxie or LTD etc. that could measure one. Off to the junk yards I go, need to buy a set anyway. I have the set off the 9inch truck housing I shortened but they use the larger bolt pattern and I want to use the existing wheels that are on the Mav. (Centerline 15x 9) Thanks anyway.

    Missing my old '70 Maverick
    Dave,

I know about the heat and humidity (Houston, TX here), so I can sympathize with you!

I hope you have/had better luck on your brake adventure than I have. After many hours of search, I found my '70 Maverick has 1972 Econoline rear brakes and who-knows what front (5 lugs - maybe later year Maverick??).

Anyway, I had to get into the actual Bendix books at the local O'Reilly store to find out about mine for replacement parts.

You might try this link for future reference.

    Good luck and stay cool,

Thanks for the info Rick, went through the O'Rileys book and showed the same info minus one thing, the 79 thru 91 full size Fords they list "MUST" have a 9in rear. Spent all day in the yards Monday and with numerous mosquito and chigger bites along with 95 degrees, found most of the full size cars have 8.8 rears and 10in brakes. Finally ran across an LTD sitting under a Pontiac Ventura that had what I was looking for, very tricky to jack that Ford up with the Ventura listing to one side. Anyway Mavman did most of the work for me and got to good drums off it. The center hole is 2 3/4 in diameter in case anyone needs that info. The sad thing about the whole day is the fact that most of the "heavy iron" cars are gone, crushed and recycled, part of life's ongoing saga I guess. Hope to have the 9in under the Fairmont soon and get the 60ft time down to 1.50's with the 4.86 gear. Have lost two tenths on the et because of the heat and humidity but dial the car accordingly. Thanks again.
