Had to get a new radiator and ordered one from O'Reillys Auto Parts for my 1974 Maverick with 200CI L6 manual trans, no A/C. Pretty simple. But what they sent me was totally different and had to re-order another one. The guy at the parts store said that I may have a 1973 engine in my 1974 Mav. He said the manufacturers sometimes put in left over engines in new models. Is this possible or is he blowing smoke?

That's because the guys at the parts house don't know a Maverick from a Vega. I very seldom go into a parts house and find somebody that knows what a Maverick is. The year of your engine would not matter.

He's blowing smoke. If it's not on a computer screen, most that work in parts store have no idea wait to help you with. You have to go to a hot rod shop to get good ideas. Or just to get the right parts you need.

The Autozone around here is the worst, I like Advance Auto Parts its great; everything is right on the shelf.

Take your rad to a Rad Shop, and have it rebuilt. Might be more than a replacement, but will be twice as good (if the rad shop is any good)

Or for about $200 you could go aftermarket.
