Hey guys I was wondering if it would benefit my car to run on the 110 race gas that is at the track. I have a 302 with normal compression, 8:1 I think, whatever is normal for the 302, Would this High octane stuff make a difference or can I stick with the 91 from the pump? Thanks

    race gas.

    Don't bother Lox.
With that compression, you don't even need premium unless you are running lots of timing.
What is the rest of your set up like?
Do you have an aftermarket ignition of some sort?

Although, there's no harm in trying it. It's not going to harm your engine.

You 'should' be able to advance your timing a few degrees without detonation. I use the old method - advance timing until it pings a little bit (under heavy engine load) then back off 1 degree. Worked for me.

I run the 114 (with 11:1 CR), you can even try that (as long as you haven't added any O2 sensors say, for use with a spark control management system).

    Keep us posted.

edit: 'Doesn't matter about O2's after I thought about it  If you're considering running the 110, you probably don't have any O2's anyway. The 110 and 114 can destroy the 'Caddilac'
    converters. My bad.

Don't bother with higher octane fuel. It just burns a little slower so high compression engines will not detonate, that's the main purpose of race fuels. If it will run ok on 87, there's no need to slow the rate of burn in the cylinders. The other thing to think about is that premium fuel and race fuel are "dirty" fuels...meaning that they leave a large amount of deposits on piston tops and intake valves. Sometimes the junk will build up on the back of the valve face and cause it to stick slightly open---ruining valve seats, valves, and not to mention losing some serious power. With 8:1 compression, I'd stay with 87--heck I even used 87 octane in my old 10.8:1 compression 466, backed the timing down some and it worked wonderful. Good luck!

Thanks for the help...The car does have an ignition booster pack. Its not an MSD I am not sure what kind it is, its just a little silve box but it runs to the ACCEL coil... I am going to advance the timing to about 14 degrees to cure a little miss that I have but I will stick with the 87 for now...Later

I have a chart somewhere  that has formulas for octane verses compression. Best I can remember until you get above 10 1/2 to 1 compression, 93 octane is all you need. I will try and find the chart and post it.
