Gas tank, filter and pump replaced. Carb being rebuilt. Now to think about exhaust. I have been reading the post about recommendations for muffler, but I have a few basic (newbie) questions. I have always had standard stock mufflers. I just always replace with what was there. So tell me, what does side in/center in and side out/center out do for you. Is it more than fit? What configuration do you recommend for a '76, 250ci with a stock set up. Or should I just go with one of the straight "bullet" shape. Not much room under there with a stock fuel tank. Want better performance and little more growl.
Center in center out will always be louder than offset ones. On a six i would run a single inlet duel outlet. I have ran a bullet on my 200 and hated it. I dont like straight mufflers on these inline six. Turbo muffler or a flowmaster is what sounds best to me. Ive had both. You can pick up a cherrybomb turbo II muffler at autozone for twenty bucks.
-I've preached it on here before , if you have a 250 run into a y pipe (centered under front seats) running into 12" glasspacks(summit), sharp turn to the sides into exhaust tips. all in 2" or smaller pipe. if i could post a video i would, you can't tell it's a six you run a straight setup single glasspack then you got the buzz these engines are known for i don't like the generic turbo/flowmaster sound, hear enough of those in town
^And I cant stand the generic glasspack/magnaflows . Seems people have different tastes . I have my videos under the username acmav289 on youtube. I ran a magnaflow and it sounded like crap. And that muffler is just a modern glasspack that wont blow out.
haha we have different taste. i mean turbos/chambered mufflers, they sound aggressive, but nine times out of ten thats what everyone has on their vehicle at least here in the bluegrass that is. once i get a data cable for my cell ill upload a video of my exhaust setup on youtube.
Yeah but thats on V8s. Then again I love any muffler on a SBF. Looking forward to the video! Actually if you have a youtube account you can send the video from your phone to there. Im really interested to see what two muffler sound like. All my setups were using one muffler. Because im cheap lol
finally got my phones data link cable in, took some videos this morning and uploaded on youtube. ---wish my phones sound was better quality but it did alright. first link is me right after i started the car (fairly cold out), i kill it towards the end though second link is after running 15 minutes, i give it some 1/2 throttle pulls
The best to use to FIT under the car is a offset in with center out if you want to mount the muffler in the best location (under the rear seat) this will give your shop teh most room and easiest to bend the pipes. If you us a smaller round muffler you can mount it back by the bumper in the stick location, then you would use a center in/out muffler, like a stock replacement.
