I am considering changing my pulley to a billet from Summit. They said that it is only slightly smaller in diameter than the stock one but being aluminum is will weight a ton less, is this worth the investment? Thanks

Thats a question you need to ask your self .. is it worth the money for aluminum pulleys, i dont doubt that they are a alot light then stock ones.. but then again just how much do stock pulleys weight not all that much. This is realy just an appearence mod.

It won't weigh a ton less, maybe half the weight at the most. A savings of 1 lb maybe? Sure its rotating weight but for the money the performance won't be there.

Thanks, after thought and consideration I don't think I will spend the money just yet, besides there are always other things to fix on the mav. Thanks

unless they are underdriven i wouldn't bother especailly if price is an issue.

i run march pulley set up but they are all underdriven. (pic below) they they do look really nice... but you might run into charging problems.. it all depends.

i just chromed my stock ones on my 6 cyl... (pic below) but the way the EPA is these days it might cost you just as much to get billet ones then to chrome stock ones. if you want looks power coating is much cheaper. i just powered coated my stock wheels and they were like 35 bucks.. way cheaper then chrome!

after some more thought I have a few other questions, 1. I would be changing the drive pulley for performance not looks, 2. would I gain more power cause I am going from 3 grooves to 2, and 3. what is the weight on a stock pulley versus the billet aluminum? Thanks

i don't know about the less or more groves ahveing to do with power but if the pulleys are running accessory (the extra grove running pwr steering) well in that case you won't be robbing horsepower.

we're you will get more power from the smaller diameter of the crank pulley.. well i should say less loss of power cuz to me the pulley don't make power they are just letting the engine crate power that was there in the first place but being robed in another way.

as far as weight well i have an extra billet one here however that all would depend on what pulley you have on the car now. lower pulley differ on cars. like my air car vs my non air car.. vs my 289 pulley and 6 cyl pulley.

    which one do you have?

if i have some time.. and if i have time.... i'll e-mail my friend at march and see what he says as well..

shoot that AC pulley is on my car now... i had to use it cuz i couldn't get the blower one pulley one in the underdrive pulley :( too small.

but i can't weight for you cuz its on the car.. but i can weight the billet on if you want? i don't think there is that much of a weight differance.
