Problems with rear taillights

    I recently purchased a 72 Mercury Comet, and now I am having problems with the rear lights. All rear lights work when the light switch is off, but when I turn the headlights on I have no rear lights, turnsignals, hazards, brakes, nothing. Any suggestions??

    Short in the light switch? Thatd be my guess.

    First thing I would do is clean all of the grounds associated with the rear lights. Then clean the light bulb sockets.
    Bad grounds will cause some strange problems.

    Any chance you've installed an aftermarket stereo recently?
    If not, I would guess either headlight switch or turn signal switch.

    if it's just the..."rear taillights"...and not the ..."front taillighs" too...then i don't have a clue...:huh:

    i had the same problem. i actually replaced the rear light sockets and they lit up fine. they are at autozone for about 4 dollars each.
