Does the car start and run? Is this just a light problem?

I just reread your first post and see you have a amp gauge. I'd disconect the battery, bolt a big jumper wire across the amp gauge terminals, then reconnect the battery just make sure that gauge is not the problem.

Not sure how yours is wired due to the amp gauge but normally the headlight switch gets its power directly from the battery post on the starter soleniod, through a fusable link. I would say if its not the gauge, I would get another headlight switch.

One more thing before you change the switch, Get a volt meter and after the lights go out, pull a plug on the back of the headlight. I'm not sure how much you know so I'll go over all of it. THere are 3 wires. ONe is for high beam, one for low beam, one for ground. Ground your meter to the battery post and see if you have 12v on one of the pins. If you do, chances are your grounds are week. Trace the wires and you will see one of them goes to ground, Remove it, sand it and the metal where it connects, reattach, and retry.

Are you talking about the solenoid? If so, it is mounted right on the apron next to the battery. The positive battery post will connect directly to it.
