okay so I bought a 70 maverick and it has highiback bucket seats with I6 car has auto with AC Im wondering if this couldve been a grabber the vin doesnt have the 93 in it but I was told thats 71 and up sadly there is no grabber options or upgrades on the outside (I wish) so what do you guys think? am I dreaming?
I don't think buckets were available in 69/70. The door sill plates are not 70, either. Are you sure it's a 70, not a 71? The 70 Grabber would have had a rear spoiler, too--not on yours. What is the VIN? It does look like a well-optioned car though. Factory A/C and buckets with deluxe door panels. Based on the info and pictures...I'd have to say NOT a Grabber, and NOT a 70.
I dont recall what the vin said exactly but I think 91 not 93 I dont remember for sure I checked the tail lights and they said 70 so I figured it was a 70 once I get the car moved to where I can work on it Ill be cutting the floors out for my 72 comet since its a bucket seat car. Im hoping its not rusted out just curious if it was a grabber before I cut it to bits
If you are cutting the floors out solely to put buckets in, you only need the reinforcements for the inner tracks, not the whole floor pan. There should be small dimples in your floor pan that landmark where the bucket seat holes should be drilled in your non-bucket car. If you are using the new car's floor for rust repair, then disregard my previous statement. Also, you can see a bit of red around the reverse light lens, so they are NOT 1970. The first digit in the VIN is likely a "1" or a "2". If you are cutting it up, I believe there was someone on here looking for the vinyl top trim molding for the quarter panels. Lots of good pickin's on that car!
Im cutting the whole floor out to make an easy swap to bucket seats. the floor in my 72 comet is rust free but has alot of holes for the different places people have worked on it moving the shifter around and different holes for the buckets that are int here now (originally a bench seat car) I want a nice clean floor without a bunch of useless holes. I would think its faster to replace the whole floor rather than patch a bunch of holes I have quite a few people interested in parts from this car. I wont have a problem getting rid of 90% of it thats for sure I just have to get where I can work on it.
I don't believe in that, whole dating a car by its tail lights, anything could have been replaced. I'd say that's at least a 71. If the vinyl on the door panels is decent, save it, you can always replace the backer board. Doesn't look like too bad of a car. Those could be factory buckets.
That is not a 1970 Grabber - '70 grabbers had a 1A all black interior with either the rim blow wheel or the torino style wheel with the 2 horn buttons, not the round center pad horn. Mirror mount size and location are wrong - no spoiler - wrong sill plate - lots of other clues. I too think it is a 71 model. Post a picture of the ID tag from the drivers side door jam. I bet a cold beer that VIN does not start with 0
The biggest clue that I see, telling us that this is not a 70, is the larger transmission tunnel - 70 had the smaller more rounded top tunnel
Not a 1970 for sure. Looks like factory buckets. Repairing holes in the floorboards is WAY easier than replacing the entire floor.
okay looked at the sticker on the door jam and it said 11/1970 so that makes it a 71? heres a couple more pics of it before it gets dismantled you know maybe with a little duct tape and some chewing gum it could be road worthy again I brought it home today so parts will be available by monday I have a classified ad already going
