I've always used a Scotchbrite pad. They grey ones I think. No way you'd ever be able to get into all of the openings with paper imo.

Ditto on the Rustoleum but I think I used satin or semi flat....it holds up great. I painted my 70 grille in the 80s and it still looks good.

I sprayed my headlamp doors and them got a rag and some laquer thinner and carefully removed the paint from the edges before it was completely dry. I tried taping it off but it is too much work.

Will use the scotch brite pad to scuff up the grille. I have to make a couple of repairs and was sondergin what grit sandpaper to use to smooth them down.

When I make the repair I will have to use something to sand it down besides a scotchbrite pad. 280 or 300 grit maybe to get it even?

Is the Rustoleum Satin Black a paint for plastic or did their metal paint work OK? Don't know if Rustoleum makes a plastic paint but I don't want to use the wrong stuff and create a problem.

I repaired my grill with 3m panel bond adhesive. Likely the same idea as what your using. It worked great. I even built up areas that were completely broken off. Took some time to get it looking right but it worked out great. Mounts are stronger than new. I scuffed mine with scotchbrite as per our body man. Gave it a real good cleaning with silicon remover. I painted it with Mar Hyde trim paint as per our body shop. Its supposed to stand up to UV and not fade out. Been almost 2 years now and it looks same as the day I sprayed it.

A little side note. When I installed my grill I used plastic push pins to mount it intead of the factory screws.
I found when I work over the front of the car i lean on the grill. The push pins allow me to pop the grill off in seconds so I dont crack it.

Thanks for the info and thanks for the link. :Handshake I ordered the paint. Like ordering from Amazon. Its easy and prices are usually pretty good.

Good idea on the push pins too. I'll put it on with screws till I can pick up the right pins.
