Guys i saw these on Craigs list des moines.

I'm thinking hard about the swap from my 250 , I know I need the parts motor mounts etc, what are my isseus for these 2 motors if I were to pick one what shoud I watch for what would I need i was told the oil pans might be wrong, anything else about these cars they came out of that would cause issues, how much woudl I pay to get the right oil pan for a 74 Comet? ( forget the 350 not part of my ocnsideration, i just copied and pasted the ad there are picts too

    "1 Ford 302 engine removed from a 1977 Ford Fairmont. $125
    1 Ford 302 engine removed from a 1979 Ford Mustang. $125
    1 Chevy 350 engine removed from a 1975 Van. $300

All engines are garaged and turn over. "

Also your thoughts on this ?

" I have for sale a 1987 Thunderbird with fuel injected 302 and rebuilt automatic overdrive trans. Car is white with red interior. Factory aluminum wheels. This would be a good motor and trans for a rod project or car could be driven with a little front end repair(hood and right fender are damaged and there is no front bumper or header panel) I would like to get $450 "

the t-bird probably has the most powerful engine but you also have to take into account what its going to take to get in in your car

you want a carb or EFI? mechanical or electric ful pump, getting the belt drives right, swapping to an AOD or finding a stronger C4.

all 3 of those cars are considered fox bodies i believe and im not sure which oil pan they had but you'll need a front sump and the matching pickup for the oil pump.

im doing the v8 swap now. im buying a 77 mav 302 im going to freshen up and drop in.

Is it a pretty straight forward swap for the c-4 I have , Are their computer management pieces I need. Would the T-bird have everything for the swap of th emotor and trans-- except the Maverick v-8 mounting parts ?

I'd go fuel injected, with electric fuel pump,

What is meant by front sump, is that saying the pan is deeper up front then shallower towards the back, does this require internal motor changes or just a different oil pan?
    Picts of the differences anyone?

I'd go for the Thunderturd, at least you can hear the engine run before you pull it so you know what you are getting. ford84stepside put the same engine in his car I believe (pretty sure it was originally fuel injected), you may want to PM him and see what he says. He'll definitely know about the oil pan. You will have to change to a front sump, that's all I know. Plus headers and stuff like that.

Different oil pan also means different oil pump pickup.:)

The front sump and oil pan with a deeper end in front and shallow in the back go together. Front sump means that the oil pick-up is at the front of the engine.

Go for the T bird. Probably a bunch of other stuff in it you could use too.

Thanks Guys I have to get some numbers together, my biggest hurdle is where to keep the T-bird while I scrape money together for the pieces I need for the swap,
plus the T-bird is about 100 miles form where I live so getting it "home" is an issue.
this is all if the guy hasn't sold it already.

Yes you do need a front sump pan I got one of the 302 motors and tranny out of a 87 T-bird and it had a rear sump pan. Fortunitely the changeover is easy just make sure when you do it you get the one peice oil pan gasket it is alot easier then the cork gaskets.

As Jamie said, I used a T Bird engine in mine, but it was a 85 with the throttle body fuel injection. I scrapped that for an aluminum intake with a Holley 4 bbl. You will also have to use an early style timing cover that has the dipstick hole or the flat boss that can be drilled, as the later motors have the dipstick in the side of the block. I also used an old style points dist, I plan on putting a pertronix in it later on. As far as pulleys go, I went with V belts, it is possible that the serpentine can be made to work, some of the other guys have done it. Of course you already know about the Maverick specific motor stands, mounts and headers, and have been told about the front sump oil pan. I bought a chrome pan off of eBay, it was cheaper than a painted one, and also bought a brand new pickup tube and screen. Oh, and I used a Holley electric fuel pump, mounted back at the tank.

Since you'd have the whole Thunderbird, already running, I would seriously consider doing the full EFI swap. You'd already have the ECM, harness, and know where everything goes... Would be pretty cool I think, and relatively easy compared to tracking each piece down.
