Ok who wants a free Maverick! A Grabber at that!

Ok this very nice guy called me up last week and asked if I wanted a free Maverick! Yes FREE.. I have had some luck in the past of people telling me they want to sell or give me a maverick. In the past they all have been quite promising and something I ended up taking. So again, I said what the heck, why not, I’ll drive 35 miles or so to check it out well I took a look at it today and well here’s what it looks like.

It’s a 1974 Grabber made in Sept 1973 with a V8, 5 lugs, Disk Brakes, it was an A/C car and what I though was unusual about it was it had a bench seat.

The parts that were good were the disk brakes, most of the stainless steal, grill, A/C tinted windows, driver side sport mirror, sun visors, door panels, ash tay, rear end, hood, all lights, tranny and 302 for parts! For the most part the body is straight!

The bad well you can see in the photos in addtional post cuz i can't post any more photo in this post … rust in the typical spots, quarter panels under the doors bottom of front fender are eaten though (this is the worst part of the car). The roof inside has rust and the trunk lid does too. The right side door is not the original door either hence the color on the inside and the missing sport mirror.

Ok so what’s the problem, and why am I not saying “look a new maverick to the Maverick Man Family? “

Well I would take this car however I don’t think I would restore it.. To me its too much work for me that I don’t want to get into right now. Plus as most of you know me, I look for the Gems that I can turn ugly ducking to swan… in this case I don’t wanna take the effort. If I did take it I would probably part it out.. but I know some of you guys would think I’m crazy to do such a thing! So in turn I’m asking any of you… DO YOU WANT A FREE MAVRICK?!!!! I’ll give you contact number and info.. but the catch is all I ask is, I want the grill off the car in trade and will give you another to replace it with.

However I think if I offered the guy 200 bucks just to come over to take parts off of it he would probably let me But for some reason right now I’m not in the mood.

Anyways more info on the car: It has sat since 2000 and he says it ran back then. Just that with California Smog laws prevented him from doing anything with it. It has an original 163532 miles on it. It has been in Non – Operation so there are no back registration charges.. He has the pink slip!

So again DO YOU WANT A FREE GRABBER MAVERICK?

    Let me know.

(edit: it looks like the owner wants me to talk to you guys and figure you whos gonna take it.. cuz he don't wanna deal with it... he says he don't want to talk to 10 million differant people lol! ) so e-mail me on this at maverickman@maverickman.com don't PM me cuz my box is almost full! just post on here that you e-mailed me

btw he said he does NOT want this car parted out.. he would like to see photos of it when its done... so i'm giving him my word that whom ever takes it will not. i'm sure you will give me yours.

btw i think i'll have to make an adoption agency for mavericks... have you fill out a questionaire.. do a background check!.. lol! )

what city is it located in? will they let it sit for a short time before p/u? say 2-3 weeks? does it have the motor and trans in it? it says "with a V8" but unsure if its in it. what about floor pans? would it be worth the drive from Georgia? what is the deal with Cal. and the smog laws on a car that old?

its the great city of lawndale for those of you who don't know where that is that is right next door to Compton... WESTSIDE! yes that where they have drive bys :D

motor everything is in it... (let me post more photos) give me some time.

Floor pans are like the roof of the car near the ends nothing i saw was eatten though!

i asked him how long would he hold it for he said its been sitting there for 6 years and another few months woundn't matter.

would it be worth the drive to Cali? to me since i live in cali NO. would i drive to GA for that car NO. but i have seen some of the stuff on here where you guys back east have to deal with and i'd say it would be better then what you guys show me... but for a cali car to me... it seems to be alot of work.. i look for cars with no or little rust at all.. i'm just spoiled!

smog laws.. thats a whole another post... anyways he bought a mustang now and even though the car NOW wound'nt need smog he just wants to get rid of it since he has a mustang now.

Wow, this one is hard to pass up. I sure would love a 74 Grabber, but like you, I'm just too busy to take on that kind of a project right now. I would love to take it and part it out and make some good $$$, but I'd feel too guilty doing that.:)

If no one wants to take it to restore, I'll take it for parts for my 71 Grabber project.

At least "FREE" appears to be what it is worth .... :( .... I hate seeing neglected Mavericks .... even if it is a big bumper .... :)

Did he bring the car from back east? that is a lot of rust for a south cali car. a lot of it is in easy to replace pieces though.
