im thinking the deepest part of my oil pan is at the front of the motor. is this correct? with that, my 89 motor has a rear sump. just change sump?
gotta put the front sump pan on the new motor. The newer fox body mustang dual hump pan will not work. Don't forget to plug the dipstick hole in the side on the block too. You will use your old style timing cover withthe dipstick in it. The old front sump pan will cover most of the dipstick tube hole the goes along the edge of the gasket area on the drivers side but fill in the hole with RTV just in case. Oh and gotta put the oil pump pickup tube for the front sump on too.
Yes you will have to change the pan and pick up tube, you will need to change the timing chain cover as well unless you are going with an electric fuel pump and using the stock dip stick location for the roller motor in the side of the block
have most of what you have refered to. going mech fuel pump, have a old oil pan, just need to buy a sump. but i wonder if the old style sump will match up with 89 pump?
Don't you have the old pan with a front sump from what came out of the car? Just use that. You can buy a new front sump pickup tube/screen for pretty cheap or clean up and use the old one that came out of the maverick. the front sump pick up tube will bolt to the newer oil pump on the newer motor. then use your old timing cover and you won't have any issues with the timing pointer or dipstick. make sure to install the old fuel pump eccentric to the front of the cam gear to run the mechanical fuel pump.
Rick both me and my brother are running roller blocks in my maverick and his falcon, and Adam is running one in his car too. So if you got questions this weekend i"m sure we can help by text message since we dont check the board much on the weekends. Now get that car together already.
ok ryan, i have everything i need except oil pump, sump, and a need chain. also need gaskets. should have it back together by sunday. side note: all them questions about stupid stuff that im sure many people where asking themselfs why ask about that he is no where that close? well, i've been collecting parts, gaskets, this that and the other. I PROMISE, I WILL BE READY FOR THE FALL MEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When you get the oil pan gasket get the one for the maverick oil pan so it dosn't have the notch cutout for the fox body dipstick.
For $28.99 that better be the one piece Permadry gasket. If it is then that is a good price, if it is the 4 piece gasket then its too much. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/s...make=Ford&model=Maverick&year=1974&vi=1132210 pump and screen http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MEL0/M68.oap?pt=02333&ppt=C0145 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/s...make=Ford&model=Maverick&year=1974&vi=1132210
If that gasket it the one piece neoprene type, it's worth every penny. I've had mine on for 40k and 10 years and no leaks. The cork one would have been pouring by now!
