When I bought my Maverick previous owner told me rear main was leaking a little, engine is a freshly rebuilt 87 roller motor. Drove car all last summer it would drip a little from bell housing after parked for a bit so I figured it was leaking on to back of flywheel slinging oil around in bell housing and running down and leaking out after it sat. Pulled trans found oil like suspected on back of flywheel in bell housing had not got to clutch though. Pulled rear main it was a national seal it looked like it had galled and smeared a small bit of the seal on crank . Cleaned crank looked fine no nicks marks gouges nothing put in a new oem Ford rear main seal parts guy said 87 had 2 styles a later one with a double lip which is what I used (and looked like one I removed) and a earlier one with a single lip. Put trans back in fired car came back next day oil puddle under car coming out of b. house. Could I have the wrong seal or I am missing something? I did use sealer on the flywheel bolts that go in crank as well. Looking for any advice don't mind doing it twice but hate to do the same thing three times
Perhaps builder didnt put a dab of sealer on parting line of main bearing cap where it meets the block when it was assembled...
