The B&M cooler i just got is rated at 14,000 BTU. Is that ok for engine oil?

i love how they give your rateings that require you to be a doctor in physics to figure out if its what you need. i would hope that if its on the market it has been desgined for an automotive oil cooler. i look at it this way, unless the motor has turbos or something else puting alot of extra heat into the oil, any oil cooler will help. the factory only put oil coolers on sevear duty vehicals (cop cars, ambulances etc), and those used motor coolant to cool the oil.

My 02 300M Special has an engine oil cooler built into the rad. Overkill if you ask me but if its free it cant hurt.

I wouldnt put one on my Maverick. I'd be terrified of a part failure and leaks.

As far as btu rating any size will help. Factory oil coolers are usually small until you get into heavy equip.
Like Bryant said most factory ones are cooled by engine coolant. Our Chryslers use an adapter at the oil filter that runs coolant. I think it helps with these small high power high revving engines we have these days. Under hood temps get pretty crazy.

The muscle cars used air to cool the oil.

You don't want the oil (or coolant) to get too cool. It won't protect the engine.
