Ohio/Tennessee River Valley gathering

Ive been talking to several of the members in this neck of the woods about a mini-meet here for those who are interested. please keep in mind that things are still in the works and im still gathering information about everything but i wanted to let everyone know what i have in mind...

What is it: just a "mini-meet" for the regions Maverick-er's and Comet-er's

Where: im hoping to rent the local dragstrip (Clay City Dragway; http://www.mpdragway.com/ ) which is a 1/4 mile NHRA track. my dad works there and im going to get with him and the owners about rental information on a Sunday or something.

When: As for dates, we're thinking about May-June but always open for suggestions as everyone is trying to do it whenever it's most convient for everyone.

Who: just because you dont live in the surrounding states doesnt mean anything. this invitation is extended to anyone that wants to come and enjoy, whether you bring a car or not... so EVERYONE WILL BE INVITED!

Why: because we all want to get together and have a good time

How: with everyone's support, we should be able to pull everything off.

ill be working close handed with everyone to get information reguarding about how many people will be able to attend. this will be the deciding factor as to whether or not im able to rent the dragstrip, because the cost would have to be divided among those attending, or donations or something of that nature. if for some reason the dragstrip falls thru, im still planning on a back-up meet as well.

as stated, im looking for eveyone's opinions and inputs for ideas and everything so please feel free to post or pm me for more contact information

 

I would do everything I could to attend.
The dragstrip would make me no difference. I think a show would be better, lots more time for hanging out, IMO.
The only comment I have on the dates is to please not let it conflict with SOMERNITES CRUISE on the 4th saturday in June.

 

yup, i thought about that too John. that's one of the reasons i was shooting for a Sunday event. that way, it would leave more people open to attend

I should be able to attend maybe I will have my orange maverick back from the body shop by then (they have only had it for going on 3 years).
The track would be fun but I am sure it will be a good time either way. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Who knows maybe we can get Tim to pull his comet out of moth balls.

 

that's what im hoping for, to get anybody and everybody together... even Tim!! lol

 

Don't forget about me. May not have a finished car yet...but that isn't required to have a fun time.

Sounds like a good thing! May even draw a couple of PA boys if you can stand us!

 

If you don't get enough to rent the track, could an area be set aside for a mini-meet/show while the track is open for business? Might be a first step to full rental. I'd certainly consider the trip even though my Sprint won't be on the road yet. Jim

For an update, my dad and i talked to the track owners and the cost of rental versus the number of people that will be there is going to be too high. Instead, im going to rent out the local fair grounds where there's a large building and open parking lot for eats, greats, cars and a swap meet.

as for the date, it has been moved to September 20, 2009. if something changes with the date, i will be sure and let everyone know but as for now, that's where it stands and it's on a Sunday. i figured that would be best as most people dont have to work on Sunday. it will begin at 11 am and will last untill whenever

if anyone has any suggestions, questions, thoughts, ideas or anything then please feel free to speak up. we're always looking for ideas on how to make it better


oh, and i will gladly accept any donations of any kind to help fund this get together. no matter what doesnt get donated, ill be paying for everything out of my pocket. it will cost me $200 to rent the building and lot, and then w/e it costs for food. there will be a grille on hand where hamburgers will be grilled, chips and pop will be available. if u would like to bring something, please feel free to! this meet is for everyone and i want everyone to have a great time!
