So I've got my car running but it heats up so quickly. This is a brand new engine and within 5 minutes of running its already at 200-210 in park. Is this normal or is something wrong? I have a 15inch 6 blade fan and no fan shroud which I cannot find. Is there a place online that has one or will another car shroud work?

What are you running for a thermostat?

Auto Krafters handles reproduction fan shrouds for Mavericks.

I believe its a 180degree thermostat. I will have to check the box when I get home.

Thats brand new too. Champion aluminum 3 row. Only thing I can think of is the thermostat is stuck or the hose that loops from the pump to the intake. Ive tried several hoses and none of them seem to go on without kinking.

did you put a head gasket on backwards. they have cooling ports on one end and block off the ports on the other. if one head gasket is on backwards it will over heat quickly.

The Machine shop I went to Installed the head gaskets and heads. Only thing I put on was all the other parts and intake.

When it is 200 degrees, is the upper radiator hose just as hot? What about the top radiator tank? The upper hose should get really hot as the thermostat opens.

what are the details on the engine build?
how much of an over bore?
    what type of heads?
    were they surfaced?
    whats your timeing at?
is it just idling as it heats up or is it when your driving?

That is the return line from thermostat housing to water pump or what ever it's called. I'm running nothing but waterpump and alternator.

First - the Maverick / Comet came with 17" fans.
second - the V-8s used a fan shroud.
Correct those two and then make sure you are running a 180* thermostat.
    Let us know what happens.

You can get the 90 degree bypass hose at any parts store. A good rule of thumb is the engine will run about 100-110 degrees above the air temp--at 95 degrees, the engine should run 195-205 degrees. With a extra good cooling system, it might even run cooler than that.

It's completely normal for a new engine to heat up quickly. But 200-210 is not overheating. That's normal too. But all that said, you do need a fan shroud too. The motor should run a little cooler after it's loosened up after breakin.

Well I had a 192degree thermostat. I changed it for a 180. I will change it today and see if theres a difference. Also will try to find a fan shroud.
