I replaced my whole front brake system, from hoses to rotors and i bled the brakes (only the front ones) but now i get absolutely no pressure thus causing me to barely have any brakes. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks guys!
Sounds like you just need to start over and bleed the entire system, starting from the wheel furthest away from the master cylinder and working towards it. Do NOT let either cylinder go empty while bleeding or you'll have to start all over. You may have to bleed at the master cylinder too but I'd just try the wheels first.
yes bleeders have a screw on top. thats how i bled them. i had a hose from the bleeder screw into a reservoir with brake fluid so air wouldnt go back into the system. And once i did that i continually replaced the fluid in the master cylinder to continue the bleeding process till the air and crap was out and there was a fluid stream of fluid coming out. then i had my friend hold down the pedal to continue the stream while i tightened the bleeder screw. Is that how to properly do it? i explained it incase im missing something lol hopefully im not
Doing the hose in a cup of fluid will almost always allow the bleeder screw threads to suck air into the system. Ive always had the best luck using the 2 man method of one person holding the pumping pedal till its firm(er) then holding it while the second opens the bleeder closing it before the pedal is released.never let the resivior go dry.
oh alright so hold the pedal down till its firm, than while still holding it down open up the bleeder screw and then closing it once all the fluid comes out? sorry i dont exactly follow
I think what Joe is saying is this: Have your friend step on the pedal and hold it down while you crack open the bleeder valve, fluid will come out bubbly at first. Do this for a couple seconds then close the valve, check the reservoir and then repeat the process until no more bubbles come out of the line. It's very important that your buddy not let up pedal pressure until you have the valve closed.
oh ok i understand now, thanks gtcomet so in theory if i used this method along with bleeding all the brakes in the right order my brakes will work again? lol
Provided you have no leaks in the system anywhere, brakes are adjusted properly and you follow proceedure properly to bleed brakes...You will have brakes...Only fly in the ointment here would be a bad master cyl. If your old fluid was filthy/rusty you may have a bad master cyl...Good luck!!!
the master cylinder is only about 2yrs old so cant be that...atleast im pretty sure it isnt and the old fluid wasnt bad it was basically just a darker color (dirty/old) so i think im all set. Anways thanks a ton for your help guys i really appreciate it! hopefully i can have her back on the road by next weekend!
