It's right beside/behind the 1bbl on my 70/71 Maverick. Neither I or the Dude can make hide nor hair of it, and couldn't find it on a cursory sweep of either the shop or other manuals. It looks to connect to the tranny in some way but we can't figure out what it does, or is supposed to. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!
Kickdown linkage has been removed? If so, when hooked up, it would kick the tranny down a gear when you stomp the throttle.
Is it like a passing gear? If so where can we get that kickdown linkage (or is it there already)? Are they still available or am I going to have to find one off another Maverick?
Probably off another maverick. Put out a "part wanted" post, and clearly say which engine and what you need. (you may want to PM Craig Selvey...) But, you don't NEED it. Many of us take them off. But, yes, it drops it down a gear so you have power to pass, IF in fact, it is the connector to the kickdown lever.
I didn't catch that it was passenger side. But you are right... My next gues is...it is a hook for hanging wet laundry on, so it will dry faster.
Yes it's on the passenger side of the carb/engine. I'll try if I can to post some more pics later but the Dude and I were stumped by it. Right now we're more interested in finishing the wiring harness (danged PO did snip-snip to both the new AND the old one, making for fun times) but hopefully soon we'll be wondering about this little dealimoflange.
It is part of the gas pedal linkage on a 1970 motor. 1970 was a different set-up than the 1971-1977 set-up. Starting in 1971, the gas pedal cable went directly to the carb. In 1970, the cable went to a mechanical linkage set-up like you have pictured.
Well that settles the question I had about whether it's a 70 or 71! I'll let the Dude know but it looks to be caddywompous in its spot and will need to be changed (someone actually tied a knot into the cable wire probably to take up slack). Here's to hoping they still make these cables! Thanks!!
Quick question too: if I were to get a new carb could/should I bypass this linkage, or do I need to use it?
Thanks for the pic. What kind of carb does your 70 have? Mine seems to be a Carter RBS which iirc is stock but it doesn't have quite the same setup yours seems to. ETA: Thats one clean engine you have there.
