I was blessed with a couple more days of good painting weather. Finished everything that needed to be painted before winter. Now I'll be able to complete everything over the winter that I want to do. I'm looking at final painting being done in spring, which around here will be in May. This has been a true joy to work on. Hell of a lotta work, but it is SO MUCH fun!!!! :bananaman Hope these pics inspire some of you to chase your dream and WORK on your car! Enjoy! Eric J (cont)
Thank You! For your question, well, yes and no - I'm not sure? The color was used by both Mercury and Ford in the late 60's and early 70's. Mercury called it "Competition Gold" (since I'm an old Cougar guy, that is what I call it!) and Ford called it "Grabber Orange". It was used on Mustangs and T-Birds, but I'm not sure if it was used on Mavericks. My paint chip chart says that it was a Mustang only color. But again, knowing how Ford did things, I am not sure? Super job. Looks like you did things the right way. It looks like a ton of work but thats what you have to do to do the job right. Are you planning on assembling alot of it and then doing the final outer paint job?
Looks great. If the pics are a true representation of the color, I dont see how they can call it orange or gold. A very knowledgeable body shop guy I know told me never to use news paper as a masking agent. It has fuzz on it that will get in your paint. Just thought I'd pass that along.
Eric, That looks great!! You are rolling along nicely on it. I take it you are just cutting in the color and you are going to assemble the car and paint the outside together. The fenders are not bad if you have to assemble them after paint but the doors are another story. I would try to paint the outside of them with them on the car. Thanks for the pics!!
Thank all! Dennis - You are right about the newspaper. It was all I had. It will leave ink marks too if you are not carefull. I tried to use those shiney glossy print ads like the Home Depot insert. Nick and Erick - Complete exterior will be painted next spring. I wanted to get all the hidden areas and door jambs painted now. Over winter I'll get the driveline installed and chassis completed. Doors hung, dash and interior installed. After the exterior is painted I'll put in all the glass and weather stripping, ect.
Looking good, Eric. And yes, I AM inpspired - very inspired. I'd LOVE it if you came down repainted mine!
Lookin good Eric, is that a single stage paint? Looks like it has a really nice finish to not have done any wetsanding and polishing yet.
Yes, DuPont Centari single stage. The exterior will be DuPont BC/CC with color sanding. This is the 1st time I've worked with the Centari, I really like the way it lays down. I have good spray equipment too, that helps.
