I just posted on the New Members site and thought I would move over to the drag section.
    It's a 70 Maverick.
It has been a drag car since the early 70's and has a sticker from the 79 Winternationals at Pomona.
The car needs rubber on all four corners and a few other things replace, but should be ready to hit the strip in March.
The car has a throttle stop and has run 10.50's at 127mph in the 1/4, and without the throttle stop in the high 9's at over 134mph.
I drag raced for some 20+ years in the 70's/80's, but in SS classes with a Camaro and Mustang.
Can't wait to get this beast on the track again.

Sorry for not putting any pictures up but finally got them to load.
Here is a little more information on the motor, 408ci stroker, Probe pistons and rods, SCAT steel crank, 15:1 compresson with Twisted "R" heads by Roush/Yates, victor Jr Big intake, CarbShop Holley 850 mod'd to 1030, Dawson custom headers (break apart) to match heads, MSD 7-3AL, Electric water pump, Mikes Transmission Powerglide w/trans break, it was at one time NHRA certified (parachute for over 130mph in 1/4) 5 gallon cell, 9" Ford with Spool and 40 spline axles...........guess that's about all.
I will put new tires, probably Goodyear on all four corners, have the headers ceramic coated, change some of fuel lines, add an Aeromotive filter and new pump, have the belts and window net re-cert'd and head out to the track with 114 or 112 race gas in the cell....................then out to the track we go.
Thanks for having me on the site, look forward to learning/helping if I can.
    John

Oh, forgot...................the car less driver is 3117lbs. It is tubbed, but they didn't use aluminum, the car currently has 4:89's but also has some 6:0's for the 1/8 mile. The roller cam is a special grind Crower, 704 lift on intake and exhaust, 307 duration intake and 311 duration exhaust.
She is a monster to star with the 15:1 compression..............backfires are not a good thing!

    Hmmm. New?

I didn't know they were making new mavericks.

Just joshin ya. Looks like a fun setup!!! :D

6:1? I bet that is fun. Never even heard of them.

And why so heavy? Mine is not a racer, but weighs in at 2950. Is it from the bigger engine block?

Sorry for all the questions. Welcome to the site! :tiphat:

Great history on your car. My friend also has an early 70 Mav Pro Stock. His is powered with a 69 Boss 302 w/13 to 1, Pinto R&P with Mopar torsion suspension and 6.00 gear.

    Scooper77515,

Part of the reason it is to heavy is that it is tubbed with 18gauge metal rather than aluminum, and to house the 31.0/13x15 slicks takes a lot of sheet metal. The cage and subframe is tied togther with some heavy steel, and is the ladder bar setup and ofcourse the cast Powerglide is almost three times the weight of a C4. So even though it has fiberglass hood and bumbers and all the window mechanics have been taken out it still has the full dash and all the carpets.
Reason it is a little on the chunky side.
The 6.0's are just for the 1/8 mile and I won't be doing any 1/8 mile.

I guess that is a lot of new steel. I was figuring that the engine block was a couple hundred heavier.

I bet that car is a kick in the head to drive!

    408w Maverick,

This used to be the carb pan, and was modified to fit up into the snorkle the way you see it now. It has rods front and back that hold the wire mesh and treated foam in place.
    Hope that helps.
