The car has a Maverick front bumper, bumpers are hard to find here. I kind of like it, what do you think? Also notice my new sports mirrors, a guy had an extra pair and I gave him a home made center console instead Painted the rear taillight and side marker frames black. There is a before picture here. I also got a new idea when fixing the backup lights, I realized that the red border is transparent and lights up when the backup lights are on. I want to experiment with red light bulbs or led's and make the inner light functional, at least for the brake lights. How do you like this idea? anybody done this? More pictures in my gallery.
Looks great! I personaly wouldn't have the lower lamps in front and I have also never noticed any other mav/comet that has vinyl on the sides like yours.
They were on the car when I bought it and are not original and not even connected, I have been looking around in newer cars for fog lights with similar shape as the original sport lights, any ideas.
mine are the stock '69 1/2 clear lens lights... i put 2057 bulbs in and wired them to the headlights. ...frank...
Damn fine looking car!!! I have a 71GT that I am making the inside lights functional. I am also making my own lenses to get rid of the chrome cross hairs. Behind the lense I'm putting truck LED lights. I have 1 side of 1 lense done already, I'll get some pics of it today.
Ok, I went out and took some pictures. This is only the roughed in stage but you can get the idea. Plus I only bought 1 light incase it didnt work the way I wanted to. These LED lights are almost blinding with a good battery. I cant wait to see 4 of them lit up. I will find some defusing material to spread the light out more to cover the whole area. I want it to look like the Comet shape lens rather than an oval.
Great, do those LED connect directly to 12V? Are they red? I have an extra pair of tail lights that I can experiment with.
They are 12v and as you can see in the second picture, they have a red lense already on them. I will probably remove the lense when I get the defusing material. Only thing that will cause problems is turn signals. The flasher unit which causes your lights to blink on & off, works off current and are designed for the current that a standard light bulb draws. LED lights draw extremely low current. Thats benificial for brake and running lights but a problem for turn signals. If you search the web for LED lights, you will find solutuons which usually amount to putting a small high watt resister in parelell with the brake light circuit. Some people like Lambert, who make custom Led lights for cars, probably sell the resister. I know he sells the defusing material. http://www.lambertenterprises.com/
Neat . At first I was confused about the bumper that gives it a cool look and I never seen a vinyl top with the halo trim ,but the top goes down the side like a regular top .Thanks for the pic
I think that the LDO option included this option from 1971: The halo vinyl roof was introduced in 1973: I'm not sure if the car had halo top originally, but anyway this car is far from beeing original...
