Hello everyone!! I recently purchased a 74 Maverick (my first one) and would love some advice on where to begin restoring it. It seems to be in decent shape as far as rust is concerned, except for the lower cowl and a hole in the driver floor that I think just can patched. It's in need of a front bumper, carpet, front and rear trim, and a headliner. I would like to drive the car as I restore it but not sure if that's recommend or fesible? It has a 302 under the hood. That runs well. I also would like to know can the gas tank be restored or is it best to just purchase another one. The sending unit is out in the one I have and it has one tiny pin hole. I just seeking some direction, some advice and parts. Thanks in advance guys!!!

Get that cowl taken care of before you go much further - I assume it leaks causing the rot through on the floor

So....its leaking from under the dash/cowl. The leak on the drivers side is coming from a circular piece. What is it? The hole on the passenger side is from a rust hole. Is there any videos out there that does a step by step on how to fix.

    Welcome!
If that circular piece is a flat span of sheetmetal in the cowl, you likely have factory A/C and that is where a vent would have been cut out in a non-A/C car. Cowl repair should be a priority if you have long term plans with this car. Another very good mod is to put front disc brakes on it if it has 4 wheel drums..... gives you a fighting chance to share the road with modern cars.

I started breaking down everything this morning for the cowl repair. (even though I hated to do it because the paint is nice on the car). I got the windshield out and removed the hood and both fenders. Now I guess I start drilling?
