I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion, and 85 More Mavericks and Comets in Inventory.
I have been dealing with Spectra in Canada to produce the gas tank new for our cars. They would like to know how many people are interested in a New gass tank, The List cost would be between $225.00 and $277.00 each unit,, these would be made to OEM specs and from a sample we would provide from a 1971 Maverick. We are hoping that Your response will fill the Minimum quota, That number might be 250 units. Nick is my contact at SPI in Canada. So please your response in this matter is very Important. and yes this tank is made for the cars with a rear Valence.
I will post any and all E-mails I have From Spectra so all of you can follow this progress.

    Thank you

    Joe

Hi Joe - 1st I want to thank you for all the great work you are doing to get reproduction parts for us all.

The tank most of us have gone to when replacing the stock tank is the Mustang tank conversion. The main reason is the Mustang tank is narrower and allows the easier installation of dual exhaust. I think only the concours purist would insist on a stock tank size. Here is a nice tech article about the swap.

Since you are making it up from scratch, maybe a stock fitting tank that is narrower on the left side to accommodate dual exhaust? Might find more interest in that set up from all. I know if I didn't already have the Mustang tank, I would be all for buying a custom fit tank for dual exhaust applications.

    :)

I like the idea of a re-designed tank for dual exhaust applications.

I didn't realize many people have done the Mustang swap? I just bought a Spectra tank for my 73, it is the later style so it's bigger, I would be interested in the proper tank.
I could send them the proper tank to copy, and since I'm in Canada shipping would be easier.

I guess what I meant to imply mostly was a need for a tank that is friendly to dual exhaust. The Mustang tank does this nicely but requires some fabrication work instead of just dropping the old tank and hanging in the new one. A direct replacement tank that was friendly to duals would sell more IMHO.

the 69 70 tank would prob be one run.. but we need to meet the minimum quota. I will go after that next. depends on the response we get ,,,,

    Agreed.

While repop tanks are nice and I am sure folks would be interested, if you go through forum posts here for the last few years, the focus has been on dual exhaust and dual exhaust friendly fuel tanks.

One of the issue,s will be just getting the tanks produced as OEM. if we can get that done, we can make direct fit tanks for Dual exhaust. First we have to get the factory on board.

I would be on board for at least 2 of the 71-73 tanks if they are reproduced.:yup: Keep us posted.

So we're talking almost a $70,000 investment here, of which I'm sure the factory will want at least half up front. Wow...

I certainly agree with Eric here on this special tank however I understand the process you're talking about here so I would be a buyer for at least one factory tank...maybe more later.
