Ok so it is actually not a 3" exhaust question as much as it is a sizing and flow question. So i picked up a set of hookers and my young adult mind wend wild when i heard that we have 2 3" glasspacks sitting in our shop at home. so i decided to go all 3". But now im wanting to run 2.5" because i am not wanting all of the extra weight that comes with 3" but i would still like to utilize the glasspacks. Would it be ok to run reducers on each end of the glasspacks? Will it inhibit performance at all?

Run three inch to the mufflers and then a reducer and 2 1/2" out the back.

That would depend on who makes the headers and the length they make them. You are going to have to measure.

ok well they are hooker 6901's but it would probably be best to just mock it up to the correct length. Ill just pick up 6' of 2.5". i already have 6' of 3".

there shouldnt be any significant weight difference from 2.5 to 3" exhast. now the problem is that the 3" exhast is to big for a 302. 2.5 exhast is even to big for a stock or mild 302. a motor needs back pressure in the exhast to run correctly. the bigger the exhast the worse a motor will run at lower rpms.

    What he said ...

I believe race car setups tune with header/collector/pipe widths AND lengths. You can find info on the web for what exhaust setup "generally" is best for your specific engine specs, gears, etc. I don't have any links to offer. You may find info searching on here as well.:thumbs2:
