I have a set of 15x8 rims (american racing). Need some good tires, I'd like them for mostly commuting but will be going to the track soon. I was recommended 255 60 15. Any suggestions?
ok, good . . . foung BFG for $100 per tire, they are 255/60/15 but it says the tires are 7.5" thick but my rim is 8" thick. . . that a problem?
Check max rim width for that tire.It should be fine...BFGs' tend to run wider than advertised in my experience.
BFG T/A in 255/60r15 may rub a bit on the fender depending on your backspacing. 245/60r15 should be fine in most cases. But there is no set rule. Some will work on one car and then not on the next one.
I gotta look, don't know what I have in the front. Man I hope I don't rub, but I guess I'll figure it out.
My car has the BFG 255/60/15 on rear. No rubbing. Lots of room. I wouldnt advise going with the BFG TA though. The tread is very aggressive. Looks blocky, almost like a mud and snow look. The old TA's had a much smaller tighter tread pattern. The large block tread picks up some killer stones. Just had to touch up the bottom on my quarter. They are up for sale next season. I'd happily give them to you if we werent a few miles apart.
You're quoting the tread width here. The section width (total width of the tire) is a hair over ten inches with a 255/60. Section width in inches can be found just by doing the math...........255 is the width in millimeters, divide 255 by 25.4 (millimeters in one inch) to get inches. The height (diameter) can be found by multiplying the section width (255) times the aspect ratio (60%) then multiplying times two, plus the rim diameter (255 X .60 X 2 divided by 25.4 = 12.04 + 15 = 27.04
alrite sweet! this should work well then. I have my rims already and the new 8" with 3.25 gears is almost ready to go in so it should be fun. Thanks for the info on the tires all.
Lots of guys with 275's. Had them on my first Mav. Depends on the rim and suspension. Some cars seem a tighter fit than others. 275-60-15 is a pretty tall tire.
Yep, you bet it is, but it does help on the highway with 4:11 gears. Much better than a low profile tire.
