Hi every one I have a 1970 Comet GT.302 3spd complete bucket seats and all original down to the shifter.I also have the original Green title issued from NC. that I have never transfered, with that being said when I purchased the car my intentions were to use the drive train and interior in a Maverick whenever I find the 'right' one.The Comet has been wrecked the man I bought it from kid smacked a light pole cutting donuts in the early 80s and it was parked every since.Ok where it hit was on the passenger side behind the door its not that bad and did not hurt the frame at all. Also at some point the windshield was busted out but the dash and gages are still perfect. The front floors are rotted not sure about the trunk but the car has minimal body rust.Recently I have been looking for a 70/72 maverick for a project (since my first car was a 72 grabber) and the grabber stuff to go with it and went as far as to try and trade comet GT stuff for Grabber stuff but the more I look it seems that the Comet stuff is way more rare than the Grabber stuff is this true?I would like some advice on how to attack this project of dealing with getting a car or fixing what I got which is worth more? And this car is titled 1970 with v8,even though the wiki said that happened in 1971?If my car is worth it I will fix it even though I loved the Maverick I had. Thanks any info on this will be greatly appreciated Thanks again John
Comets were not available until 1971 model year ... you car may have been built in late 1970 ... but it's a 1971 model ...
Thanks for replying is this a rare car worth fixing sorry I don't have any picks but I did describe it as best I could.
There were fewer Comet GT's built than Maverick Grabbers. However ... for the most part, and judging by the folks on this forum, Grabbers are still more desirable. Whether the car is worth saving is really up to you, your skills, your passions and the size of your bank account ( or credit limit) ...
Really need to see pictures in order to make a judgement. Negatives: - Wrecked - Rusty Floorboards - Sitting for a long, long time
Welcome to the Madness of Old Cars from the Sunshine State! You will understand what the Madness is when you start restoring this car. Comet GT's are good. I have 2 of them. Restoring them is usually a decision of the heart, not the head, since they usually cost more to retore than what they are worth. Jim
